Over last six to eight months the image of our beloved country has been portrayed as that one of the scamsters den, all this has been to the numerous scandals unearthed in form of CWG irregularities, Adarsh Housing Society, 2G Spectrum and the latest one in the row being sale of another defence land in Mumbai. The scenario is dare not open the cupboard of a politician you will be overrun by the skeletons. All citizens of India and the public across the globe has been witness to the shameful revelations and the aftermath in the Indian Parliament. Its shocking and shameful to call ourselves the citizen who have elected the representatives who do not echo the sentiments of Indian public. The complete situation has left all of us with bitter test of helplessness to the extent that even Ram or Krishna descends on earth will not be able give us NIZAT from these political monsters.
The worst part is that even the cleanest of the clean people like our prime minister Mr. Manmohan and Home Minister Chitambaram are not in a position to act decisively having armed with the constitutional powers. Let alone acting they are not even voicing concern or discuss the course of action needed to defuse the situation. Mr. PM is not even able to decide on the kind of probe that is required to be undertaken to unearth the truth. May be public inaction in these cases may be one of the strategy that he may follow where in he allows the regulatory authorities do their job and wait the results that can be then seen by the public. If that be so I admire the patience and risk that he is taking at the cost of his personal image.
Opposition including the partners of UPA in the house have been demanding JPC probe. The sole contention that only JPC can unearth the truth, as it is not considered to be the instrument of the ruling party or government. The common fear that the opposition will drag the JPC and the core issue and make it a big MUDDA in coming elections will be the only worry that the ruling party will have. Let that be so we need to be more open to scrutiny in all issues and transparency in dealing should be given first priority. Had PM agreed to the JPC I think he would have enhanced his image and taken the leverage out of the opposition. Look at the colossal loss of public money in terms of loss of valuable time of parliament.
On the other hand the opposition has also been irresponsible in not allowing the government to put forth their opinion and ask for discussions on the requirement of JPC. It is still not understood as to why opposition is not willing to accept any other form of probe. They must realize that the Indian public is clever and will ask these questions when you go back to them and more over opposition today is likely to be SARKAR tomorrow. The most unfortunate is that none of the political parties are willing to move from their predetermined position, Which is critical for the situation to change.
To my mind all parties should agree for a time bound presentation of white paper by the government on the issue and the ATR (Action Taken Report). This would be more objective and constructive move than stalling the parliament.
What all political parties have done is taken a pure egoistic approach and they are not serious about discharging the responsibilities entrusted to them by all of us. To add insult to the wound all of them are more interested to accrue the advantage out of the dead lock to gain grounds in their regional areas. Didi and Amma are the burning examples of such opportunism.
The most surprising and amusing fact that is seen is that all the parties have only national level leaders giving out the statements as if they have been given the dictate to handle the situation on centre stage and non of the regional leaders that of state level are involved in the issue. How can such an important aspect of governance be treated as center and state issue ? Why Mr Modi or Mrs Dixit silent on these issues ? Why at all only Mr Advani or Mr Sibal have to speak ? Is the issue of corruption not the concern of other political leaders ? Let there be confusion and chaos, at least you will come to know the individuals thinking.
Most unfortunate and serious concern is the involvement of Defence Services in some of the scams. Prima facie it appears that the top brass of the defence services have been made to believe that there is no violation of rules and regulations in all the dealings that has been put forward to them. On their part they have faulted in blindly believing the political leadership. This may be incorrect to a large extent but I tend to believe this as I have had the opportunity to serve with some of the brass whose names appear in the scam. To my mind even it to be for the personal gains the uniformed man will not stop to the level that is required to do such a crime. For the simple reason that he still puts service before self and would not do anything that will bring bad repute to service.
What has happened is that the politicians have made poor soldiers and other subordinates in civil services the scape goat in the whole episode and they are running scot free. Just giving mere resignation from the CM post and keeping low profile for one year and bounce back on other opportunity is not enough, but then this has been the history, tell me how many politicians have come under the legal action and are undergoing punishment today……… NONE……………
Finally it is the public who have lost out on their money, peace of mind, disturbed life due to calls of Bandh and strike etc etc. Who is to correct that………….? The message is loud and clear it’s you and me and what is the medium RTI, PIL and Supreme court of India. BUT are we ready for that?….. Do we have time for that?………. One has to find if this country has to improve.
